Empty Homes Week
Tomorrow is the start of Empty Homes Week (Twitter #emptyhomesweek ) from 28 Nov-2 Dec - a campaign being run by Empty Homes a national campaigning charity to showcase and inspire successful examples of bringing empty property back into use.
It is timely because last week the Grimsby Telegraph reported that there are 1,385 empty homes in Grimsby and Cleethorpes - one of the highest rates in the country.
Empty Homes Week is all about community-led organisations, local authorities and other interested bodies holding events and putting out information to celebrate their achievements in bringing empty homes back into use. They can also set out their future plans and the case for making the most of empty properties to meet housing needs.
The charity itslef aims to:
Raise awareness of the waste of long-term empty homes.
Research, develop and work with others to test ideas for bringing long-term empty homes back into use for those in housing need.
Provide encouragement and advice for those seeking to bring empty homes back into use, or those who are concerned about empty homes.
Campaign for changes to policy and initiatives at national and local levels that will enable more action to bring empty homes back into use for those in housing need.
The regeneration of Grimsby and helping address the area's housing needs is something close to our heart and so Tapleyhomes will be following this year's campaign closely with a view to engaging more actively next year.
